Perfect for cutting your tracks on snow-covered slopes, or taking soaring airborne jumps. It has everything a freerider could ever want. The mountain offers steep descents on the glacier, pristine slopes on partially secured off-piste terrain as well as many natural jumps and drops.
The well preserved village center of Andermatt is of national significance. There are a number of stately homes here, often with rococo interiors. Typical of Andermatt are its wooden structure on masonry bases, open arcades and stone stairways.
The Sasso San Gottardo, a very unusual museum, is located in the tunnels and rock caverns of the Gotthard mountains and focuses on the use of resources. Part of the former Sasso da Pigna, an artillery factory during World War II, it is open in summer when the Gotthardt pass is open. www.sasso-sangottardo.ch.
The Furka steam railway provides a nostalgic experience through magnificent mountain scenery. It takes about two hours for the carefully restored vintage trains to travel from Realp over the Furka Pass at 2,160 meters above sea level, to Oberwald.
Built in 1786, this elegant patrician building showcases displays of Swiss alpine tourism and provides a comprehensive history of the Urseren Valley and its rich culture.
